  COMMENTARY
  Lt. Ebenezer Denny (1761-1822), was the first mayor of the incorporated city of Pittsburgh (elected 1816).

Present at the Yorktown surrender, he carried his regiment's standard as they took possession of a British Fort, but "on entering the fort, Baron von Steuben, who accompanied us, took the standard from me and planted it himself." (Denny's journal)
